Bridge Valley Camp
In week 4, the Senior Team classes headed off to camp at Bridge Valley for 3 days of exciting adventure.
We loaded up all our bags onto the bus. We were all very tense but excited to get to Bridge Valley. When we arrived we unloaded, dumped everything outside the lodge and met Q & Sophie, our hosts at Bridge Valley.
Our first activity was Top Team. This was hard! One of the activities had us standing on barrels, and trying to roll it to the other side. This was chaos because it was hard to balance, with people falling off but also having fun. We had to take on other teams at tug of war, grass ski races, frisbee golf, floor is lava planks and the playground relay. Our favourite was the playground relay, we loved throwing ourselves through the hoops but also watching everyone else try. The Fortnite Oompa Loompas managed to beat the parents at this event (the only time the parents lost!)
That afternoon we had our first activity rotation with everyone doing something different: High ropes, kayaking /aqua park, rock climbing/ caving, laser tag & archery/shooting. Over the next 2.5 days we got to do all of these activities.
High ropes: This was walking on wires, suspended in trees, testing our balance and agility as well as our nerves. At the start it was quite scary but once you were up there it was exciting. A favourite challenge was the tarzan ropes and the seesaws. The leap of faith was a bit scary. We all loved zip-lining off at the end.
Laser Tag: Levi was running the laser tag. We got split into boys and girls. He showed us the high tech laser guns worth $1000 each. The first two rounds we were trying to get the most kills, running around the hill, hiding behind tires and barriers for protection. It was fun having the adults playing with us, they helped us with tactics and directing the play. Laser tag was a crowd favourite but it was hot and tiring too.
Rock climbing: We put on harnesses and helmets and Sam explained how the rock wall worked. There were 4 different walls we could choose between; easy, intermediate, hard and extreme. You needed to use your legs to help you, not all arms. It was a cool challenge. Some of us got timed to see if we could beat some records. There were some amazing climbers! Being lowered off was a fun way to get down. There was also a rope wall that you had to use your arms to pull you up. Once you had finished, you could go into the cave which was a series of tunnels inside the rock wall. It was a dark maze, some of us definitely got lost!
Kayaking/ aqua park: Hayley was taking us kayaking. We paddled around the lake and played sponge tag (throwing the sponge at other people in their kayaks). We tried to raft up but that was tricky! The aqua park was an exciting inflatable playground. Running around and jumping off was a good time. We did get a bit cold towards the end.
Archery / shooting: At archery we learnt how to use the bow properly, stringing the bow with the arrow. The green fletch had to face the right way. Then you had to pull with all your might and fire! It was tricky pulling it back far enough but there were some sharp shooters amongst us. At shooting we were using air rifles. We had safety glasses and a safety catch on the gun. There was a shooting range under the deck at the pool. You had to keep your cheek on the gun, close one eye, keep it on your shoulder, line up the dots and bang! Hopefully you hit a metal duck target. Some people hit them, some people found it hard.
In the afternoons we got to use the waterslide, pool, jumping platform and hydro-slide. We all loved the hydro-slide.
On the final morning we got to do an Ironman relay, running, jumping, swimming, kayaking, caving and sliding all over camp to tag our next team member.
We can't forget the food - it was super tasty! We had butter chicken, burgers, macaroni cheese, American hotdogs... yum!!!
Overall camp was incredible fun - most students have given it a 9 or 10 star rating. Thanks to all our amazing parents; Todd, Kate, Kelly, Amy, Elaine, Manoli, Belinda, Brad, Jerame & Hayley. Also to the best teachers in the world, Anna, Sharon, Lucy & Simon.
The best camp in the history of camps!
