Waka Ama

Zac Deacon —

In Week 3 the Year 8's had a fantastic day in Kaiteretere enjoying some Waka Ama and some competitive orienteering!

I was lucky enough to go with the Year 8's on their Waka trip to Kaiteretere. It was so much fun and all of the students conducted themselves in the most superb way. They learned a lot about teamwork, local history and tikanga Māori. The day was spent paddling along the coast of the Able Tasman, learning all about the history of the area as we went. We performed a haka on the water, had a race with each other and had lots of fun. Whilst one group was paddling the other group went orienteering, competing against other teams to see who could find the most points on the map. The weather was perfect and so were the kids. Ka pai tamariki!
