School Donations - Why Do We Need to Ask for Them?
Thank you to all of our families who have already paid their school donation for 2025.
Why Does the School Request a Donation?
As a New Zealand state school, we receive government funding through an operations grant. While this grant covers many of the basic costs associated with running the school, it is simply put, not enough to provide the enriched learning experiences we want to offer our students.
The school donation plays a vital role in bridging this gap. These funds are used to enhance the curriculum by providing experiences and resources that would not be possible otherwise. For example, your donations help us bring in outside experts like Daniel from Sport Tasman, who delivers specialised sports programmes. Next term, they will help pay for Life Education to visit with their mobile classroom and run health programmes with all classes. Donations also enable us to offer class trips that deepen students' learning beyond the classroom. Additionally, these funds supplement our curriculum budgets, allowing us to purchase extra materials and resources that enrich your child's education.
Why Isn’t Our School Part of the Government Donation Scheme?
The Ministry of Education offers a "school donations scheme" where eligible schools receive $150 per student in exchange for not requesting a parent donation. However, eligibility for this scheme is determined by a school's equity index, which reflects the socio-economic makeup of the school community. Our school does not qualify for this scheme, meaning we do not receive this additional $150 per student from the government.
Without this extra funding, we rely on the generosity of parents to maintain and expand the programmes and opportunities we offer. Your donations make a real difference by enabling us to deliver a richer and more engaging educational experience.
How Your Donation Helps
Every dollar of your donation goes directly toward improving your child's learning environment. Your contribution supports:
Specialist Programmes: Bringing in experts to deliver unique learning experiences.
Class Trips and Activities: Providing valuable learning opportunities outside the classroom.
Curriculum Resources: Supplementing our limited operational funding to purchase additional educational materials.
We Appreciate Your Support
While school donations are voluntary, they are crucial to maintaining the quality of education we strive to provide. We deeply appreciate any contribution you can make, as it directly benefits all students at our school.
Whilst we set the donation amount at $180 per child, if you would like to donate more than this you are (of course!) very welcome to do so. The more income generated through family donations, the more enrichment of curriculum we are able to afford!
Likewise, if a $180 payment is not manageable for your family, please feel free to either pay the amount over the year, or to donate what you can. We appreciate any support you are able to offer.
PS: Your school donation does qualify for a 33% tax rebate through IRD.
