First Steps - Quad Canopy Footings
Shade Systems began work today on the canopy which will cover the Intermediate Team Quadrangle.
As shown in our last newsletter, Shade Systems have begun work in earnest in erecting a canopy over the Intermediate Team quadrangle. This structure will provide the Intermediate Team classes with a large and flexible breakout space. When the canopy is erected, artificial grass will offer a suitable surface for students to sit on while engaged in learning activities. The addition of a few bean bags and low exterior tables will provide for flexible use of this space.
While we patiently wait for a multipurpose hall, gymnasium, or whare facility, this covered quadrangle should allow assemblies to occur despite wet weather. We are even hoping it can be used for presentations of work or small productions. It should also serve as a suitable presentation area for visiting presenters and performers.
Funding for this project came from the Ministry of Education following an announcement late in 2019 that all state schools in New Zealand would receive a grant to carry out work that would directly impact on students. This funding was termed SIPs (School Investment Programme) funding and has been used in various ways by schools.
Currently, Shade Solutions plan to complete this project during the coming holiday period.
