We Really, Really Need Your Help - Please!
Our attempts at enticing you to 'fundraising brains trust meeting' were a bit of a flop, so let's try another approach!
The funding allocated to a Decile 10 school reflects the perceived capacity of it's community to fundraise and support the school financially. If we want to have a school with better than basic facilities and programmes, we need to get together as a community and raise money to make these things happen.
We usually have The Māpua Easter Fair to rely on. This event can add up to $50,000 to the school's budget. This year we don't have that privilege so we need to look for other ways to create the best school environment possible for our tamariki.
At the moment, we have three ideas proposed:
A Sponsored Colour Run. This involves a fun event where students gather sponsorship from family and friends to participate in a "Colour Run" where they run and get covered in paint. There are motivational prizes for hitting targets for sponsorship etc. This has reportedly been a very successful fundraiser in other schools. The average amount raised online with this company this year is about $17,000. Here's some examples of schools over the last 12 months :
- Masterton Intermediate: 480 students $52, 296.06. Decile 5
- Cotswold School - 505 Students $38,033 Decile 8
- St Michaels Catholic School -106 Students $10,754.65 Decile 3
- Te Puna School - 206 Students $21,000.
- Waerenga School - 70 Students $15,496.00
This event is pretty much a package offered by https://schoolfundraising.co.nz/, and is very well supported so should be straight forward to implement. (Registrations close for this year very shortly so we need to get onto this one quickly if we decide to do it.)
An Online Silent Auction
This would run along similar lines to the Easter Fair Silent Auction - but online. Local businesses and school families would be approached for donations, an online auction set up and prizes bid for. Estimates for how much this could raise are between $5,000 - $15,000.
A Super Raffle
Liz Usher has already done some in depth research into the logistics and legalities of this concept (Thanks Liz!) and is willing to work alongside others to make it happen if there is enthusiasm for it.
Done well, this concept could provide significant amounts of revenue for the school. The concept of a one time purchase and little other effort (other than eagerly checking your ticket after each draw) might be appealing to families who are time poor but still want to play their part in essential fundraising.
Raffle concept to make $50,000 profit for the school:
We run a raffle with tickets sold at $100 eachMinimum number of tickets that need to be sold: 600 ($60,000 raised)Maximum number of tickets that can be sold: 1000 ($100,000 raised)
Prizes:
$50,000 worth of vouchers to be won in multiple draws
To make any of these concepts a reality we need people to step forward and form working parties for them. Please email me if you are interested in being in one of these working parties, or if you have other fundraising ideas you'd like to lead for the benefit of Māpua School.
Ngā mihi
