Lift, Drag, Thrust, Gravity

This term our Super Saplings in Kahikatea have been focussing on the science of flight as part of our ‘looking up' theme. The students have been investigating the four forces of flying which are thrust, drag, lift and gravity. Making gliders and helicopters and investigating rocket propulsion has certainly helped student engagement take off.

In tandem with flight, Kahikatea has ben studying position and direction in mathematics. Navigation skills have been honed with compass and map reading knowledge as well as building a weather vane. Kahikatea have learnt that the sun, the moon and stars can be our friends when finding our way.
