MBC —

Tēnā koutou te Whānau Whanui Te Kareti Taitama o Wairau.

Just like that we are closing in on the end of the first term for 2022 and what a term it has been. If the word “adapting” wasn’t part of your vocabulary before, I’m sure it certainly is now. Despite the ongoing challenges we have faced, it has been awesome to see the high level of involvement in all aspects of the school. From the year 9 Nydia Bay camps to the house raft building comp, the inter house cricket and our Tonga Support Week, we have found ways to keep boys involved despite the restrictions. Fingers crossed next term brings with it some return to normality.

While on the topic of this, I just want to extend a huge thank you to each and every one of you for your support between the 21 and 27 March for the Tonga Support Week which was organised by the prefect team. During this week we received 650 non-perishable food items and $1,416 in monetary donations - including the funds received from our givealittle page, auction and sausage sizzle. All these items/cash will be sent over to Tonga in support of their relief efforts after the volcanic eruption and tsunami.

I would also like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the following businesses/groups who supported us in various ways throughout the week. We could not have run such a successful fundraiser without your support!

Finally, I would like to acknowledge some of the success our rower’s who were down competing in the Maadi Cup had. The boys had a great time away from the sounds of it and some of our crews had an even better time claiming some silverware in the process.  Congratulations to all those who qualified for the A finals but more specifically to Luke Martella and Thomas Pitts who received a silver medal in the under-18 novice double.  Ashley-James Fitzgerald also received a silver medal in the hotly contested under-18 single.  The under-18 novice coxed quad consisting of Luke Martella, Thomas Pitts, Tom Wilkin,Oliver Watts and Walter Wickham (Cox) secured a bronze medal.
