Bringing Global Educational Insights to Marlborough Boys’ College.
Over the summer break, Dr. Harvey had the privilege of presenting at the Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) in Florida, alongside other global education leaders.
This conference is one of the largest and most influential gatherings focused on the intersection of technology and education, bringing together teachers, administrators, and thought leaders to explore the latest innovations shaping the future of learning.
One of the key themes of FETC 2025 was the role of human intelligence in an age of rapid technological advancement. Dr. Harvey was honoured to be invited to be part of a panel discussion alongside esteemed education leaders such as Dr. Michelle Ament and Philip Alcock, as we explored the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) on the importance of human intelligence in education. This panel was part of the Human Intelligence Movement, a growing initiative dedicated to ensuring that, while technology plays an important role in education, it enhances rather than replaces the critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence that define us as humans.
The discussion centred on the evolving role of educators in an AI-enhanced world. The panel highlighted how AI can support teachers by streamlining administrative tasks, enabling more personalized learning experiences, and fostering deeper student engagement. However, they also emphasized that human connection, mentorship, and the ability to inspire remain irreplaceable aspects of teaching. As AI becomes more integrated into learning environments, the need for students to develop critical thinking and ethical decision-making skills is more important than ever and that education systems need to evolve to acknowledge the unique human qualities of rangatahi.
During the discussion, Dr. Harvey showcased how at Marlborough Boys’ College is committed to preparing students not only with the technical skills needed for the future but also with the ability to think independently, collaborate effectively, and navigate an increasingly complex world. Insights from FETC reinforce the school's approach to integrating technology in ways that empower both teachers and students while keeping human intelligence at the core of learning.
The school looks forward to continuing this important conversation with our community and ensuring that our students benefit from global best practices in education.
