TSS Tennis
After a strong performance in the Tasman Secondary School champs where the MBC Gold team went undefeated and defended its title as top Boys Team in the region, the team of 5 (Dan Clarke, Max Sowman, Flynn Weaver, Ryo Kimura and Callum Wells) then travelled to Christchurch for the South Island Secondary Schools event.
With only 5 schools entered in the top tier for the boy's competition, it was a really high level of competition and so the team can be pleased with a 4th place finish at this event. Due to bad weather and draw complications - the team this only played 2 ties this year, which resulted in a loss to St Andrews College and a tight win over Christchurch Boys High.
While the team had planned to contest the Tier 2 National event in Hamilton this month, in the end it wasn't possible, although with a number of promising juniors coming through, the future is bright for tennis at MBC.

TSS Sailing
Top of the South Regatta
Awesome effort by the MBC Sailing Team at the Top of the South Regatta, sailing against teams from all over the South Island, including teams that have represented New Zealand. The boys showed awesome sailing skills in extremely gusty conditions and some aggressive team sailing to create wins over the top South Island teams.
They finished in 3rd place Top of the South and 6th place for the South Island. They are now looking forward to representing MBC at Nationals in New Plymouth in four weeks.
VOLLEYBALL
Our MBC Volleyball team travelled to Palmerston North to take part in the National Tournament last week. The team were seeded 4th in Tasman and after play on Day 1 narrowly missed out on Division 3 with a close loss to Hobsonville Point. In Division 4 they finished pool play in 2nd behind previous National Champs Trident High, and faced Westlake Boys in their semi final. This finished in another very close loss which then had them in a 3rd/4th playoff game against St Bernards from Wellington. The MBC team won the game and a Bronze medal for their division, finishing the tournament 47th overall out the 100 boys teams competing at the tournament. Well done lads.
A big shout out to Mr Filipo for all of the hours you have put in to the Volleyball program this year, your efforts both on the court and off are very much appreciated by the team.
WATERPOLO
At the recent South Island Secondary School championships, our MBC Waterpolo team walked away with a Bronze medal after some hard fought games against some of the top schools. The team finished second in their group and played Kings College in their crossover beating them 13-6, this saw them play Christchurch Boys High in a semi-final. Unfortunately, the team couldn’t quite get up in that game and that saw them facing off against Christ’s in a 3rd/4th playoff. The team rose to the occasion and dispatched Christ’s 9-3. In addition to this fantastic team success, Scott Keay and George Adams were selected in the tournament team. Thank to Mr Mulcahy all of his work and time coaching the side and thank you to Mrs Yolande McIntyre and Mrs Emily McCallum for your support during the tournament.
