Tēnā koutou te Whānau Whanui Te Kareti Taitama o Wairau

I hope that you and your whānau are all getting used to life in our new normal. No, it isn’t ideal but be rest assured my prefect team and I are adapting to the situation we find ourselves in to ensure that all events can still go ahead as planned, even if they look slightly different.

We’ve had a great start to the year, kicking it off with House BBQ’s. This has been an awesome opportunity for the prefects and staff to get to know our new year 9’s and their whānau, not to mention seeing their backyard cricket skills. Weaved around these we had the first major event of the house competition - swimming sports. It was great to see everyone get into the house spirit and bellowing out the newly modified house chants loud and proud. To those of you who didn’t participate, there will be plenty more opportunities throughout the year to get involved in, which I strongly encourage everyone to do. Congratulations to all those that received a placing but more specifically to Joel Verran, Jack Love, Finn McNabb and Max Skehan who were the overall champions in their respective years. It was a tight battle for the top spot but in the end the mighty Waihopai wolf pack came out on top and in doing so have taken an early lead in the 2022 house competition.

As I mentioned earlier, we have started the year with a bang so let's make sure we carry that energy with us throughout the year; there is certainly a lot to look forward to. Most importantly, seize opportunities presented to you with open arms and motivate others to do the same. Don’t fall into the trap of saying “I don’t have time” because when there’s a will there’s a way. If you give everything a go then you may uncover a new hobby or hidden talent. You’re only here once so make the most of it. Believe me when I say time flies in this place because it does. We all have the ability to achieve greatness in the future so make the most of every day because every day is a new day, a new opportunity, and a new chance. The doors of opportunity are unlocked but you will never know unless you try and open them first. If you aren’t already, make sure you’re following our school Instagram and house pages to keep up to date with all things MBC. For the parents, make sure to check out our Facebook page.

He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tangata, He tangata, He tangata. What is the most important thing in the world? It’s people, it’s people, it’s people. So with that in mind, it’s the job of each and every one of us to ensure that everyone in our school community has a fantastic 2022.

If there are any events that you think the prefect team and I should know about, or if there are any ideas you would like to share with us, please feel free to contact me via email at lk18155@mbc.school.nz

Noho ora mai,
