Principal's Report

MBC —

Tēnā koutou te Whānau Whanui Te Kareti Taitama o Wairau

We have had a positive and focused start to the new term.

My key messages have been simple and clear;

· Establish good routines and habits that support your learning.

· Our team of teachers are here to help you in all areas of your learning and development.

· Every student belongs here at MBC. We encourage all our young men to embrace all academic, sporting, and cultural pursuits; to discover a new passion and contribute to the life of the school.

Learning Conferences

A special thank you to all caregivers and parents who were able to attend our recent Learning Conferences. It is important to acknowledge the challenges we faced in Term 1 while reinforcing the importance of our boys remaining committed and focused on meeting their academic targets and goals for 2022.

We would ask that you take the time to provide us with some feedback via the attached survey response form.

MBC Choir on the Rise

Mr Robin Randall is our new MBC Cultural Coordinator, and he has already started preparing our boys for New Zealand Music Month. We are delighted to have his experience and expertise on staff. If your son/whāngai is interested in joining our school choir this term, please contact Mr Randall. robin.randall@mbc.school.nz

Sporting & Recreation

It has been awesome to see many of our boys enjoying getting back into both team and individual sports. Our Junior Hockey teams and Premier Basketball teams had great results last week.

Congratulations to our MBC 1st XV who demonstrated grit and determination against St Bedes last Saturday, going down narrowly, 19 – 10.

Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui!

It was great to see our MBC Under 15 Gold team in action as the curtain raiser to the 1st XV match. It was filled with plenty of action, with our boys going down 29-28.

Sport NZ says that years spent studying the subject and examining overseas models show young people are best served if their needs are put first. The main motivation for young people to play sport is to have fun (76%), followed by hanging out with family and friends (44%).

I was delighted to hear a number of staff talking about the quality and enjoyment of rugby being played by our 1st XV. Our boys do love it when they see their teachers, whānau and the wider community on the sidelines supporting them.

Recently, I had the privilege of attending the 1st XV Whānau Evening. Front and centre is Mr Dave Gardiner, Life Member and Patron of the MBC Falcons Rugby Club.

School Uniform

I would appreciate support from home to ensure your son/whāngai wears the correct school uniform. This also includes the wearing of the correct MBC sports uniforms when representing the school across all sporting codes.

Currently we are seeing an increase in boys wearing “hoodies” and incorrect socks. Hoodies are non regulation uniform items. This includes the various MBC sports hoodies that are worn during sports events. These items will be confiscated and we ask that caregivers collect these items during the school office opening hours.

Regulation school socks can be purchased from the uniform shop. There are 2 types that students can wear, plain navy blue socks or grey with the gold band. We are seeing an increasing number of boys wearing black socks with differing logos.

We can assist any boys who have difficulty in meeting our uniform expectations and have a supply of good quality pre-loved uniform items also. Please contact our Assistant Principals’ for further information.
