Head Boy Liam Keegan's end of Term 3 Update
As we close in on the end of Term 3 it is only fitting that we look back on the last few weeks we have had.
Tēnā koutou te Whānau Whanui Te Kareti Taitama o Wairau.
As we close in on the end of Term 3 it is only fitting that we look back on the last few weeks we have had. In Week 7, we seniors had our derived grade exams which give us the opportunity to test out our current knowledge and see what we still need to work on in preparation for the end-of-year exams. If your results were not as good as you hoped, don’t panic, there is still plenty of time for you to work with your teachers to find and work on your gaps. If you did achieve well, now is not the time to get complacent, keep maintaining and working on good study habits to achieve highly once again at the end of the year.
In week 8, we began the selection process for next year's Prefect applicants with a Prefect selection day down at the Taylor River where the boys were tested both physically and mentally. It was great to see them collaborating and putting their best foot forward for selection. This week and last week we began the interview process and I wish all those who have put their names forward the best of luck in their applications.
Week 9 saw arguably the largest prefect-led house event of the year take place - MBC Games. For those of you who don’t know what MBC Games is, it is an event every day of the week which has been planned and organised by the Prefects. MBC Games is a major event in the house competition and ultimately plays a vital role in determining the winner of the house competition each year. So, what was on offer? Well, it started on the Friday of Week 8 where we led into the week with the Erg comp. For this we called upon all our budding rowers or anyone with an interest in rowing. Each house needed a junior and senior team of four team members with each person rowing 500m on an erg making a combined team distance of 2km. This saw Wairau win both the junior and senior races and extend their lead in the House Cup. On Tuesday we had house dodgeball and Wednesday capture the flag which once again saw Wairau take out both of these. On Thursday we had the annual Police fitness test where the top student from each House from each year took part in a tag team relay with Waihopai coming out on top with a time of 7:00.48 for the team of five. Due to the weather forecast we finished off this week on the following Friday, the last day of term, with a mufti day and fun lunch. During this time, we had Mr. Whippy, a Donut cart and Coffee cart all coming in as well as Bouncy Boxing, a Gladiator Ring, Sumo suits and Body Zorbs that the boys could get involved with.
There is one more social event of the year for 2022 and that is the second of our Junior Socials taking place on October 20th. The theme has been decided as Teen Beach Movie - Beach Party. If you’re in Year 9 or 10 then this is another event you won’t want to miss. Tickets are on sale now for $10 and permission slips are available at the Front Office.
With the announcement of our Board of Trustees, I would like to pass on my congratulations to Joseph Alipia for being elected as the Student Representative, Mr Harrison for his election as Staff Rep and all our new Parent Reps. Additionally to those who received badges for their service to and/or representation of Marlborough Boys’ College in recent assemblies as well as to Hugh Robinson and Cooper Roberts for being selected for the Junior Crusaders Camp. Finally, I would also like to reiterate my congratulations to all those who have won prizes in our recent Cultural Prizegiving. I look forward to continuing to celebrate success next term with our Sports and Academic Prizegivings.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday and hope you have a chance to rest and re-energize for Term 4, which for us Year 13’s will be our last term ever here at Marlborough Boys’ College!
Noho ora mai,
Liam Keegan
