I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge our staff; especially the Senior Leadership Team of Nicki Attridge, Michael Heath, Jarrod Dunn and Tui Raeli, who have had to manage the extra demands that Covid 19 has placed on their day to day roles and responsibilities. Their commitment to finding solutions and working as a TEAM has been hugely appreciated. Kia kaha, kia maia kia manawanui!

Leadership in Action

Our boys are given many opportunities to grow and develop their leadership skills both inside and outside the classroom.  We are delighted that so many of them are being acknowledged by having their photographs displayed in reception. This recognition acknowledges both our formal positions of responsibility and those students who demonstrate our school values of Respect, Involvement, Pride, and responsibility. Congratulations to the following boys who are living by our school values and being the best you can be.

Please take time to have a kōrero with your son/whāngai about his leadership journey.

1. Do I consider myself a leader? Why/Why not?

2. Who is a current or past leader I admire? Why?

3. What is a positive example I can set today in order to show leadership?

A Positive School Culture

A big shout out to our Prefect Team who have worked extremely hard this term to provide opportunities for our students to unplug and simply play during break times. During morning and lunchtime breaks, the atmosphere is positive as our students involve themselves in various games and activities. Staff are reporting far less pastoral issues and are enjoying their duty responsibilities.

The Malcolm Neame Trust

This Trust has been established by the Neame whānau to support individuals and groups across the school. It is open to all students enrolled at MBC. We appreciate that the majority of our co-curricular events were postponed this term. All applications that support Leadership, Service, Arts, Academic and Sports opportunities will be considered. Congratulations to John Vakaloa, Sione Papani, Senetenari Ponesi and Wayden Smith who were successful applicants of the Malcolm Neame Trust for Term 1.

If you would to apply to the Neame Trust please contact: jill.pickering@mbc.school.nz

Ngā Manu Kōrero 2022

The Ngā Manu Kōrero Speech Competition has grown to be one of the most significant and most positive events for New Zealand secondary-school students, where competitors articulate their thoughts and aspirations in both Māori and English. The upcoming NMK Wānanga will be a great way for our students to shape and draft their speeches. They will also hear from past winners of this prestigious competition.

Marlborough Girls’ and Boys’ Colleges are excited to announce that Hawaiki Kura will be delivering a series of four wānanga for some of our students this year. Hawaiki Kura specialises in delivering authentic and innovative cultural learning experiences. The series of wānanga will provide our tauira with an opportunity to learn about and participate in local mātauranga (knowledge), toi (arts) and tikanga (customs and practices) Māori.

The first wānanga will be delivered in the Wairau and will focus on setting the foundation of the wānanga and learning about foundational concepts, mau rākau and a visit to different sites of significance, here in the Wairau. The dates for the first wānanga are 12 – 14 April.
