Basketball

MBC —

It’s been a hectic but enjoyable start to the 2022 Basketball season at MBC. This year we have four competitive teams playing in different Marlborough Basketball competitions. Our Senior A team are playing men’s A grade, Senior B and Junior A are playing in the men’s B grade and our Junior B team are playing in the College Senior grade. These teams also have interschool games coming up against Nelson College, Nayland College, Shirley Boys' and St Bedes' as well as their respective tournaments.

Plenty of training has been taking place and a massive thanks needs to go to Tony MacDonald who is coaching the Senior A team and also to Hugh Mackwell who is coaching both the Senior B team and the Junior B team. The two teachers have put in a mountain of work into their respective teams and it is hugely appreciated.

As well as our competitive teams we also have awesome numbers playing in our Friday night College league competitions. With ten teams in the College Junior League and nine teams in the College Senior League, numbers of boys interested in playing Basketball is certainly growing. We now have around 200 students playing Basketball for the school, which is something we are very proud of. These games have been played in great spirit and I look forward to seeing this competition develop as the season progresses.
