Marlborough Boys' College Launches Recycle a Device Program

MBCFebruary 13, 2025

This week, Marlborough Boys’ College proudly launched the Recycle a Device (RAD) program, an initiative aimed at equipping students with valuable digital and technical skills while promoting sustainability.

With the support of two expert instructors from the organisation, 22 students engaged in hands-on learning, dismantling, repairing, and repurposing laptops to give them a second life.

The Recycle a Device program is a national initiative that collects, refurbishes, and redistributes donated laptops to students and communities in need. It provides young people with practical IT repair skills while reinforcing the importance of sustainability in today’s digital world. By participating in this program, our students are not only gaining technical expertise but also contributing to a circular economy by reducing e-waste.

Through this program, students develop hands-on problem-solving skills, teamwork, and an understanding of how technology can be repurposed to benefit others. Many of the refurbished laptops will be made available to students who need them, ensuring that more learners have access to digital tools for their education.

The enthusiasm and engagement from our students were outstanding. They quickly grasped the concepts of laptop repair, showing curiosity and determination to diagnose and fix devices. The instructors commended their eagerness to learn, and several students have already expressed interest in continuing to develop their skills in IT and digital repair.

The success of this first session marks the beginning of an exciting journey for our school. We aim to make the Recycle a Device a regular opportunity, allowing more students to participate and further embedding sustainable digital practices in our community.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and commitment to this initiative and look forward to seeing how this program continues to grow at Marlborough Boys’ College.
