The Big Sing

Marlborough Girls' College —

Ovation and Crescentia both a great day at the regional Big Sing choral festival on Tuesday this week.

Out of 7 choirs, Ovation received 1 of the 2 commended awards and placed second in the 'Choral Art Music' category. It was a wonderful day with some amazing performances from all the choirs present. Some of our singers share their experiences below.

Amy Gray (Year 13/Soprano Section Leader)
The big sing 2023 was very fun. I enjoyed being able to finally get up on stage and sing after all the hard work we have put in as a ground over the year. It was really nice to hear the other choirs perform and be able to see what level they were on. I really enjoyed listening to our junior choir sing and to see how much they enjoyed getting to be a part of the big sing.

Sienna Payne (Year 12/Mezzo Section Leader)

The Big Sing has always been such an amazing experience and the best part of the year for me. Ovation members really bonded in the spirit of the competition just goes to show the effect that the event has on us and everyone involved.

May Smith (Year 13)The Big Sing regional this year was amazing to be part of, especially as it was held in Blenheim. I enjoyed listening to the diverse range of music pieces that the other choirs have been working on throughout the year. This year each choir performed three songs, unlike last year when we were able to perform only two due to covid. It was a wonderful experience to perform and compete in the Big Sing and demonstrate our love for singing together.
