Hockey
This year the MGC 1st XI hockey team was lucky enough to play in the division 1 and 2 tournaments, the Federation Cup and the Marie Fry trophy. MGC has not been to this tournament in over 20 years, so this was a massive achievement for the girls.
This year the tournament was hosted in Hamilton. Unfortunately, many of our players had suffered numerous different injuries, which meant they had not played together as a full team for the majority of the season. Luckily they all made it to Hamilton in good spirits.
Nerves were pretty high heading to Hamilton to play hockey against the best schools in New Zealand. The games were very tough over the course of the week but the team all kept their heads up and persevered through it.
A major highlight of the week was definitely the quarter-final game where MGC went into shootouts with Marian College. MGC fought super hard and came away with the win 3-1 against Marian to secure a spot into the semi-finals for the Marie Fry trophy. This tournament was a great experience for not only the senior girls but also the younger players who haven't experienced hockey at this skill level before.
The MGC 1st XI hockey team would like to give a special thank you to their amazing manager, Sandy, for all her hard work in the background and her awesome managing skills. The team is beyond grateful to you! And also a special thank you to Boydy, our wonderful coach. Not only was she super dedicated to improving the team, but she also believed in and pushed the individuals to their full potential. The girls wouldn’t be here without you Sandy, Boydy and our special team mascot Jackson! Your hard work has not gone unnoticed, and the team is forever grateful.
