Trades Update: The Top of the South Trades Academy weekly classes have started for the year.

Marlborough Girls' College —

We have students attending the following courses at NMIT Blenheim & Nelson:

  • Cellar Operations
  • Creative Hair & Make Up
  • Hairdressing
  • Joinery
  • Sport & Exercise

Six of our students have attended Trades Academy courses at Whenua Iti Outdoors; Manaaki Tapoi Level 2, & 3 Extension.

The year began with a Mihi Whakatau at NMIT on Thursday for our Marlborough based students, with a similar welcome in Nelson on Friday for Nelson based students.

Defence Forces Visit at Lunchtime

The New Defence Forces Recruitment Bus visited MGC on Wednesday 28th February. Students had the chance to explore the TV's and Virtual Reality headsets and to look at the opportunities available to them within Defence. There was an abundance of options offered, for a range of trades and training in the Army, Navy or Air Force.

University visits

2024 University visits have started and we have had visits from:

  • Victoria University

  • Massey University

  • University of Canterbury

  • Lincoln University

These visits are regularly advertised on Google Classroom. We are anticipating a second visit from Universities and Tertiary providers in the mid year.

  • Queenstown Resort College - Friday 14th June 1.30pm

Health & Safety

Three in school Health and Safety courses were run by the external provider, Safety’n’Action.

Barista training

Training in the skills of being a barista has been facilitated with two separate trainings this week by The Learning Place. Students successfully completed this course learning how to deliver a caffeine fix to staff and students.
