Medal Haul at Oceania Speed Skating Championships

Marlborough Girls' College —

Lily Pontague, Erin Green and Paige Horne were part of the New Zealand contingent of speed skaters at the Oceania Championships in Timaru. Some of the countries participating were New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, China and Iran. Our MGC students came away with thirteen medals in total, you did yourselves, NZ and MGC proud.

Erin was outstanding throughout the champs in winning all six titles in her division the Junior Girls 200m Dual Time Trial, 1000m, 10,000m Elimination, 500m, 10,000m points and the 42km Marathon. Taking out the overall aggregate for the Junior Girls grade. 

Erin then teamed up with Mikaela MacDonald from NZ to win the Junior Girls 3000m Team Relay. 

Paige won the Cadet Girls 5000m Points Race and was second in the 21km Half Marathon. 

Lily won the Cadet Girls 21km Half Marathon and was second in the 5000m Points Race. 

Paige and Lily then teamed up with Emily Olthof from NZ to win the Cadet Girls 3000m Team Relay.

Lily and Paige were also second equal for the Cadet Girls overall aggregate.

Erin Green (Year 12) won seven gold medals, Lily Pontague (Year 9) and Paige Horne (Year 9) both winning two gold medals and one silver medal each.
