International Update

Olga Fuentes-Astorga —

Farewell to our dear international student Luci from Germany

Luci has made quite an impression on all of us; her warm smile and beautiful personality will be missed around MGC. The Multicultural Center also acknowledged her participation in the Multicultural Festival a few weeks ago.

Lucianne shares her story of being an International Student at MGC

My exchange has been an incredible experience for me. I have learned so much about New Zealand and its culture, I met so many new people and made really good friends I’ll keep for a lifetime. I was able to spend so much time with my host sister, who became the best friend I could ask for. It’s so exciting to go to a new school and learn how their school system works.

I found a second home for me, I have the best host family and they made so many things for me that made my time here more than perfect. My host family and MGC supported me in any way possible and I couldn’t be more grateful for this experience.

I’ve become more independent and confident during my time here. I have so many good memories at MGC and in New Zealand and I will never forget the time I spent here.

Hannah Hayles - Host Sister to Lucianne - shares her experience

My family has hosted many students in the past but this year we connected with Luci who lives in Germany and she came to live with us for the first term. Having a host sister is an experience you will never regret. Hosting makes you more empathetic, I think by hosting and adding someone to our family made us closer and more empathetic to each other. It prepares you for university, for example if you are going to be in dorm rooms you already know what it’s like to be living with someone you don’t know very well and you feel comfortable bringing up any situations that might occur. And the best part is you are giving someone an opportunity of a life time as well as learning about different cultures and connecting to other people you wouldn’t usually get to meet.
