Diversity Week

Temiah Cyster —

Week 6 was Diversity week - it was an incredible experience with students and staff coming together to celebrate the unique cultures and backgrounds that make up our school community.

International Diversity Week

The last week of May, we celebrated International Diversity Week at MGC to acknowledge and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of our students, identity and belonging. We began the week by hanging up the banner and handing out hello cards written in different languages and chalking different flags to showcase where everyone is from.

This year's main focus was to ensure that we truly appreciated and acknowledged everyone’s cultural backgrounds. This was through looking at cultural boards, drawing students’ home flags, and getting involved with the country quizzes created by the International Committee.

Diversity Dress Up Day

On Friday, we ended the epic week with a cultural dress up day in which students and staff came dressed up in clothing that best represented their cultural background or country. The Marlborough Youth Trust came to visit and interact with the students while running some fun activities.

At lunchtime we had a Cultural Fusion Open Stage running, the purpose of this open stage was so that students could express where they are from through a traditional performance. It was absolutely incredible to see all these different performances and learn new things about different cultures.

A huge shout out to Marlborough Boys College who came to support and even sing a song for us.
