House Update

Jan Gallop, Sports coordinator —

Despite the unusual start to the year, House competition is alive and well. Our House Manutaki are busy promoting activities and opportunities in 2022.

Some of the events that have contributed to house points so far this year include:

Our Tongan fundraising day where Kaituna scored in the race to raise the most money covering the Tongan flag, as well as some whānau challenges, and they also came away with the points in the Year 9 Inter Whānau Class challenges. The other three Houses have shared the other points fairly evenly amongst themselves, and no doubt will be out to catch Kaituna in upcoming events.

In week 10 we held the Junior House Ki o rahi competition, with houses competing with a sometimes intense rivalry. Ōpaoa were clear winners in this competition, followed by Wairau and Kaituna, and then Awatere. The Senior House Ki o rahi competition finished with Wairau in the lead followed by Kaituna, then Ōpaoa and finally Awatere.

Next up is the House reading competition which runs through April and May, so get those books out and enjoy some downtime reading whatever genre takes your fancy. Our staff are getting involved as well!

The annual Cross Country day is set to kick off on Friday May 6 which is the first Friday of Term 2. This is a whole school event, so everyone needs to rock on out in their House colours and get involved as best they can.

House deputies have been selected and are keen to work alongside our awesome House Manutaki and Staff to build up the House spirit we have traditionally seen each year.

Congratulations to :

  • Awatere: Emma Flanagan (Year 12), Olive Paterson (Year 11), Chloe Kyle (Year 10), Issie Posa (Year 10), Nicola Lovell (Year 9)
