Pōwhiri 2024

Marlborough Girls' College —

On Thursday 2nd February, we had the privilege of welcoming all of our new students, staff and whānau to Marlborough Girls' College through a traditional pōwhiri.

Manuhiri were welcomed onto school grounds with a haka pōwhiri led by Whaea Louisa King and Manutaki Māori, Cleo Collins. The whaikōrero was given on behalf of the tangata whenua by Stephen Galt and Matua Lee Mason, who spoke on behalf of the newcomers.

At the conclusion of the ceremony whānau and students shared kai in the hall before the year 9 students headed off to their whānau class for the full day's activities with their whānau teachers.

A massive thank you to all the people who helped out with the pōwhiri, especially Whaea Nan Chadwick for her help in organisation and Sia Alipia and Nicola Dow who had the honour of doing the karanga on behalf of the manuhiri.
