Growing Leaders

Millie Webber and Arwen Attridge —

On Monday 8 May some of our Year 10 students were offered the opportunity to complete a leadership day at Woodbourne Airbase. Millie and Arwen share their experience below.

The leadership day was an awesome experience. We went as a group to the Woodbourne Air Base and participated in many different activities that strengthened our leadership skills run by the Leadership team in the NZ Airforce.

These activities ranged from trust building, puzzles, group games, problem solving activities to opinionated discussion. We learnt to listen and communicate well, trust who we are with, plan and complete activities within a time limit and make decisions as a team.

We also got a tour of the base, looked through the barracks and found out what it is like to be a part of the Air Force.

One of our favourite activities was the trust building activity where one person walked along a tightrope and had two people on either side of them to make sure they could be caught safely if they fell. It was difficult at first but we all managed to get across!

Coming back to school we can use our communication skills to talk and plan with our peers as well as show manaakitanga. It was such a fun day and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to go!
