Adventure Marlborough Classes Explore The Link Pathway

Marlborough Girls' College —

In the final week of Term 1, two Year 10 Adventure Marlborough classes walked from Linkwater to Picton along on the Link Pathway.

The MGC Adventure Marlborough classes walked 19 kilometres of the 42 kilometre Link Pathway, which stretching from Anakiwa to Picton. We began our trip in Linkwater at Smiths Farm Holiday Park where we had to put up our tents that we would be staying in overnight. After cooking dinner on stoves that we had brought in our packs we did an easter egg hunt and played spotlight. The next morning after a cold night in the tents we packed up and set off along the Link Pathway.

We began our walk on a stretch of road just outside Smiths Farm. After walking along the road for about a kilometre, the track descended into the bush. From this point the track was mostly flat with just a few uphill stretches. We later stopped in Momorangi for morning tea and continued walking to Ngakuta Bay. From there it was a steep climb out of the bay but it flattened at the top and from there we continued down the mostly downhill track. As the track flattened out it became more grassy and we had an excellent view of Picton harbour. It was then just a short walk across a stretch of flat ground until we reached the bus and made our way back to school.

Overall our overnight camp was an incredible and rewarding experience. We were able to learn self management skills by having to carry everything with us. This camp also taught us some important interpersonal skills and how to work as a team. It was an excellent experience and we are looking forward to our longer camp in Term 2.
