Ka pai Ngā Taiohi o Wairau. Kapa Haka!

Marlborough Girls' College - July 27, 2023

32 Performers, 5 Tutors, multiple Whānau and supporters celebrated success at the regional Kapa Haka competition on the last Friday of the school holidays.

After a term of focused and dedicated practise our rangitahi performed with confidence and energy, gaining an overall 4th placing!  Other results from our rangitahi were:

Aggregate Items (these are the items that qualify teams for the national competition)

  • 3rd in Te Reo Maori
  • 3rd equal in Mōteatea (traditional chant)
  • 3rd in the Poi
  • 3rd in the Haka
  • 3rd equal in the Whakawātea (exit item, the last item of the bracket)

Non-aggregate placing

  • 3rd for Kākahu (costume)

A huge thank you to the tutors Whaea Helen Joseph & Whaea Louisa King; the assistant tutors Arlie Bates, Te Ohomauri Cooper and Emile McKenzie.

Tēnā Kōrua to Whaea Sarah and Matua John Kendal for their unfailingly support of Ngā Taiohi o Wairau, and to the army of volunteers who sewed and stitched for days in the holidays - Ngā mihi nui.

We really appreciate all the support and aroha from Whānau - we're as proud of our rangitahi as you are!
