Principal's Message

Mary-Jeanne Lynch —

An end of year message from our Tumuaki, Mary-Jeanne Lynch.

Kia ora e te whānau

What a year 2022 has been and while we have all faced a number of challenges throughout the year, we have had an incredibly positive end to the year, with our junior celebrations, Tabloid Day and Lip Sync in the last week of school.

To all of our students, who make our school such a great place to be. You teach us important lessons everyday: You have shown us strength in being able to adapt, unity & kindness in supporting each other, you have acted to influence and make a positive difference in our school and community, and you have done so with energy and joy. You are live our values of Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga and Kotahitanga. Hold on to how great it feels when we’re all, individually and collectively, doing that together.

Remember that you haven’t made it this far alone. Hold onto the care and love you have had from your parents and whānau, your friends, your teachers and our community. Most importantly, give back that care and love over the summer break and we look forward to sharing more life and learning with you in 2023. A huge thank you to our whānau, thank you for your faith, your trust and your honesty. We share your aroha for the wonderful young people in our community and really appreciate your support this year.

Every year, we welcome new staff and farewell those who have served our school with passion and dedication. This year we say Arohanui to:

  • Ravnil Raj who is moving with his family to teach Maths at Tolga Bay Area School
  • Sandy Gibbs who is joining the Health & PE Team at Auckland Dio
  • Keiran Machin, who is also moving to Auckland to join the team at Long Bay College
  • Anna Clark who has been a tower of strength in our Maths team, and is now moving to Christchurch with her family
  • Barb Jeffcott, who has taken leave this year after many years of teaching English, Media Studies and Psychology. We wish you all the very best of your continued success as published author
  • Sarah Kendal, our lovely Deputy Principal, who is taking time out of teaching next year
  • Duncan Bond who is returning to live in Christchurch and will join the team at Avonside Girls' High School.

In particular we honour the combined commitment of over 75 years from Jo Robinson, Maggie Musson and Robin Randall. That is an average of 25 years of service each to our school! A huge and heartfelt Thank You to each of you - you will always be part of Marlborough Girls’ College, with a special place in our hearts, and we look forward to keeping in touch!

To our staff who are returning to serve and lead in 2023 - have a fantastic holiday break, you totally deserve it. I'm incredibly proud of your hard work, commitment and energy for educating girls in our community.

No reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tatou katoa
