Songwriters success

Marlborough Girls' College —

Congratulations to Amelia Robertson and Kessia Neal for being selected as 2022 Finalists in the Play it Strange songwriting competition.

Amelia and Kessia received Junior Maioha Awards and have been selected as NZ finalists for both of their songs. This means they receive some financial support to help them record their songs for inclusion on the 2022 Play It Strange Lion Foundation album!

The Lion Foundation National Secondary Schools' Songwriting Competition allows young NZ songwriters to spread their creative wings in the field of songwriting.

The competition has been running for the last 19 years and in that time has received thousands of entries from around the country. Secondary school students from Years 9 to 13 across New Zealand are encouraged to apply.

The competition celebrates and embraces the voice of rangatahi through song.

Amelia wrote a song called 'Timer' and Kessia wrote a song called 'Tui'.

In addition to this, Kessia received a Commended award for another one of her compositions into the NZCF-SOUNZ Choral Composition Competition - "Lost Serenity".

Great work Amelia and Kessia!
