Course Selection

Students in their whānau classes have been given the information and are working through the process of selecting their eight courses. Sophie Taetuli and Stephen Galt, our Junior Deans have put together their top ten tips for students making their choices over the coming days:

THE DO’s

  1. Read the course descriptions carefully on SchoolPoint and start thinking about courses that sound interesting to you.
  2. Check the compulsory subjects. For example, have you done an Aotearoa New Zealand Histories course this year? If not, you need to pick one.
  3. Pursue your interests - pick courses that interest you.
  4. Talk to your parents and teachers about your interests. We can give wise advice.
  5. Make sure you select courses that cover all of the Curriculum Areas.
  6. Do your selections early - so you don’t miss out on your favorite courses.
  7. Be open to trying new things or push yourself to take a risk and learn something new.

THE DON'TS

  1. Do not leave it late - you don’t want to miss out.
  2. Do not select a course because that’s what your friends have selected. You have plenty of opportunities to see your friends.
  3. Don’t Stress, if you are worried about what you have chosen or missing out on a course please chat to your whānau teacher or you can book a meeting with your dean

If you are unsure, talk to your whānau teachers and they will guide you through the process.
