Sustainable Seas National Science Challenge

Marlborough Girls' College - June 12, 2024

Melynda Bentley spoke at the Te Tau Ihu Regional Workshops in Nelson.

Jenny Pullin, Melynda's Mountains to the Seas co-teacher and three Year 12 Environmental Sustainability students joined in the day.

Professor Conrad Pilditch and Melynda Bentley were keynote speakers for the Marlborough Region. Melynda spoke about the journey MGC has been on with Sustainable Seas since 2018 and how MGC has used Ecosystem Based Management (EBM) in our Year 9 and 10 Mountains to the Sea courses and our Year 12 and 13 Environmental Sustainability course.

She spoke of the support given to both staff and students and how staff implemented the learnings with students.

Afterwards the teachers and students got to engage with scientists, social scientists, iwi and others involved in the marine industry in Te Tau Ihu. They attended a variety of marine related workshops.

We would like to acknowledge the time and dedication that Melynda has made to developing these valuable courses and learning  opportunities for our students.
