'Games R Us' Celebration Day

Marlborough Girls' College —

The new Year 11 course 'Games R Us' goes beyond game design, by fostering the ākonga learning capabilities of Community Engagement and Service through promoting positive actions, and building connections with our local community.

On Tuesday November 5th, students from our 'Games R Us' Technology course showcased their creations to their stakeholders in a special celebration of learning.

Throughout the semester, students explored a variety of games to gain insights into effective game mechanics. They made regular visits to either their Early Childhood Education (ECE) centre or local primary schools near MGC, working closely with young stakeholders. Through these interactions, relationships formed between our students and those at nearby schools, allowing them to develop games based on the interests and needs of their audiences.

Each group added a creative twist to their designs, resulting in unique, customised games such as:

  • Blenheim Primary Monopoly

  • Dinosaur-Themed Cornhole

  • Shape Bingo

  • Animal Bingo

  • Peg Board for Shape Creation

  • Heart Words Literacy Game

  • Fantasy Snakes and Ladders

  • Runaway Bride — a reinvented hide-and-seek game

  • Bilingual Self-Correcting Numeracy Puzzle

  • Spot It—School Edition

We ended our presentations with shared kai. Many thanks to all those who have supported the kaupapa of the course, especially Mrs Sheryll Gwynne.

Ngā mihi and ka rawe everyone!
