New Zealand Secondary Schools Swimming Championships

Marlborough Girls' College —

Six students travelled to Wellington last weekend to compete in the NZSS swimming championships.The meet saw the top 500+ swimmers in the country compete for National titles.

The team of Claudia Harris, Carys McNabb, Nicola Lovell, Sophie Kole, Charlotte Rose and Jessica Lovell all swam strongly and many recorded personal bests at the meet.

Three swimmers scored a top ten national placing – a significant achievement when competing with the top age group swimmers in New Zealand.  

Nicola Lovell (200m Individual medley – 4th, 100m Individual medley – 5th, 100m Breaststroke – 6th, 200m Freestyle – 8th, 100m Backstroke – 9th), Jessica Lovell (50m Butterfly, 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly - 5th) and Carys McNabb (100m Butterfly - 9th)

In the relay teams, the girls scored very highly with two top ten placings. In the Under 16 relays, the MGC team came 8th overall in both the 4x50 Medley Relay and the 4x100 Freestyle Relay.

The girls also submitted an application for and won an award from New Zealand Carbon Farming after nominating Marlborough Girls College for their environmental efforts.  Congratulations to the whole team - we're very proud of you!
