OTHER AREAS OF SCHOLARSHIP

Bluelight Leadership Voyage Short Film Competition.

Kia Ora mai tatou Katoa, Hello everyone!

This is to officially announce the launch of this year’s short film competition.

Everyone at Bluelight is hoping you’ve had a great summer holiday so far and would like to invite you and your school to take part in this year’s opportunity to create a Short Film and advertise the topic we have put together.

A special shout out to last year’s winners, VERRAN PRIMARY SCHOOL and ST. JOSEPHS’s SCHOOL (HAWERA) for their outstanding victory and their creative films to do with “how do I fit in?” and “My public self vs my true self”.

We hope that this year’s topic of “Why is education important?” will be able to spark, not only some imaginative talent, but bring awareness to young minds around how impacting education is for everyone.

There are cash prizes for the two divisions - PRIMARY & INTERMEDIATE and SECONDARY SCHOOLS. First and second places available to both, so get stuck in and apply now.

Contact me by responding to me in this email or follow the link to our website and get further information there.

New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition (NZPMC) 2023 is NOW OPEN!

Registrations for New Zealand Physics and Mathematics Competition (NZPMC) 2023 are NOW OPEN!

Speak with Dr Mohan or Mrs Burton if you are interested in entering this competition.

NZPMC is a nationally standardised Physics and Mathematics competition open to all secondary students across Aotearoa. In past years, we have had hundreds of students coming from all corners of the country including Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown, Whangarei and many other cities.

This year, the competition will continue in a two-round format with students individually sitting a test based on the NZQA curriculum. The questions are designed to guide and challenge young Kiwi Scientists to extend their interests in Physics and Mathematics.

There is $3000 worth of monetary prizes along with medals and trophies at round 2. Round 1 of the competition will be held online. Successful students will be invited to Round 2 of the competition which will be held in-person at the University of Canterbury.

OnScreen National Short Film making competition

Registrations are open now, and close 22 September — final films are due on 18 October.

NZ On Screen is thrilled to support another year of student filmmaking with Showquest — the team behind Smokefreerockquest, Smokefree Tangata Beats, Rockshop Bandquest, Toi and Stills — and the 2023 OnScreen short film challenge.

OnScreen is a nationwide short film competition, open to all high-school students across Aotearoa, and free to enter. For the first time in 2023, there is also a Junior section of OnScreen for student filmmakers Year 1-8: submit any original short film of up to five minutes and be in to win $500!

Find out more about what is required and how it works on this link here - OnScreen

There are three sections for 2023:

  • Narrative Short Film: In this section you can make any kind of short film you like — funny, serious, dramatic, animated, scary or a combo of all the above.
  • Documentary: You can tackle a serious topic, something close to your heart, something you are wanting to learn about — or try your hand at a funny mockumentary.
  • Music Video: Think music videos, a musical or narrative film all about music. All music must be original or royalty-free. This is a great opportunity to link up with a friend’s band to create an epic music video.

NZPMC Workshops

The NZPMC Workshops are events held in-person to inspire young minds to pursue studies in the STEM field and compete in the NZPMC. These events help students prepare for the NZPMC, by providing them with consistent updates of the competition and future workshop dates. The workshops are a great networking opportunity with lectures run by experts in the field and lab-based activities in the works. Outside of the workshops, the online student forum run by the workshop team is a great place to have any burning questions answered, or just to chat with like-minded people.

Our very first NZPMC Introduction Workshop will provide students insight into what the NZPMC is, how it is run and who it is run by. It’s also a great chance to network with other students and NZPMC staff, make new friends and have fun with the activities we have planned for the event. To register your interest fill out the form here.
