Careers News

Carolyn Pudney —

A lot of energy has gone into completing student course work with our external educational providers, as well as internal assessments to complete courses for 2024, to enable us to meet MOE requirements for Gateway Programmes.

Students who undertook a Top of the South Trades Academy course this year attended the annual Award Ceremonies in Blenheim and Nelson.  Several MGC students received ‘Top Student Awards’ for their work during the year. A big 'well done' to all students who have taken part in the programme this year.

Top of the South Trades Academy Top Student Award 2024

  • Aeronautical Engineering - Jazmin Sheppard

  • Beauty Marlborough - Casey Wylie-Smith

  • Cellar Operations NZ Wine Industry - Natalie Burney

  • Hairdressing Marlborough - Natalie Ellin

This month 40 students took part in the 2 day ‘Work Ready Drink Service' course. Students learned valuable skills during this practical and hands-on course. They safely prepared and served plunger coffee, tea, water, soft drinks and mocktails in simulated domestic and first-class flight environments, acquiring and demonstrating skills for providing exceptional customer service. All had a fabulous experience over the two days.

As we approach the end of 2024, the Marlborough Girls’ College Careers & Pathways Team would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the local businesses, employers and individuals who supported our Gateway programme this year. Your involvement and support is invaluable for our students and you are playing a crucial role in their education and development. Special thanks to those businesses that provided work experience placements for students. We look forward to collaborating with you again in the future.
