Reading is a sport!

At the very end of last term a group of 11 ferocious readers travelled to Nelson to represent the college in the Top of the South Regional Readers Cup competition. The quiz was the culmination of 10 weeks of in depth reading of six books. Our teams came in at 4th and 7th place out of 15 teams. 2023's winner was Waimea College.

The Readers' Cup gives our younger students an opportunity to represent the college in something other than sport. Students also develop new friendships and get to explore genres of books that might not otherwise be read. And the teams love the opportunity to dress up.

Katherine de Zwart was one team member who enjoyed the experience.  In her words, “I liked how we had the opportunity to talk to and get to know the other teams. This meant we could meet more people who like reading - even if most of them live in Nelson.”
