Creating safe drivers

Marlborough Girls' College —

On Wednesday 1 March, all of our Year 12 students went out to the Sport Centre at Renwick and took part in the RYDA Road Safety Programme.

There were six interactive workshops running on the day covering

  • decision-making;
  • developing strategies to recognise and change harmful states of mind; and
  • the relationship between speed and stopping distance.

A shocking statistic was that female drivers aged 15–19 are about six times more likely to crash than female drivers in the lowest risk group of 45–49 year olds.

We support this programme which helps our rangatahi to become safer drivers both for themselves and others on the road, and were delighted to see that feedback from students indicated the learning on the day had been really useful!
