Rowers Annual Prizegiving

Marlborough Girls' College —

The Wairau Rowing Club recently held its annual prizegiving and this encompassed our wonderful group of school rowers. It was a lovely way to bring the season to a close and celebrate all the successes.

The following are club awards presented to MGC rowers or supporters:

  • Hyson Cup – Wairau U18 Girls best 2K erg – Emma Flanagan
  • Williamson Family Cup – Most improved Junior girls rower – Novice – Lilah Stallard
  • Roger Glover Cup – Best performing MGC crew – U17 pair – Emma Flanagan and Molly Glover
  • Wairau Rowing Club W.E. Gibbons Tankard – Most conscientious Women’s member – Molly Glover
  • McAlpine Family Trophy – Most outstanding contribution to MGC Rowing – Debbie Feltham.

It was also a fabulous opportunity to unveil the name of the newest boat to the WRC/MGC fleet – a new coxed four/quad boat, named” Roseanne “ in recognition of Roseanne Marsden and the huge amount of time and energy she puts into rowing in general.

Another success on the rowing scene was the performance of MGC students Daisy Vavasour and Lexi Timpson who were part of the South Island U18 team which prevailed over the North Island team at Lake Karapiro recently.

Daisy and Lexi won their Pairs race on the Thursday, as well as being part of the U18 Eight which was victorious in both races on Thursday and Friday.
