Combined Year 11 Camp

Marlborough Girls' College —

A two day adventure for Sports Science and Outdoor Pursuits classes at Whites Bay (Pukatea).

Eighty students took the trip to Whites Bay ( Pukatea) for an overnight camp. Students were on a rotation of activities which included the Mt Robertson track, IRB surf lifesaving, Adventure Race and Team building challenges.

The students were split into two groups and they took on a different set of challenges each day.

The Mt Robertson loop climbs through regenerating and mature forest, and is a physical day challenge for our students. It was great to see students taking advantage of the challenge and to see the look of satisfaction on their faces as they returned to camp having completed the loop.

The amazing race saw students complete a number of challenges against competitors. Some of the challenges involved a marble relay race, digging and pulling students under driftwood through the sand, building a tower off the ground that can support a full water bucket and finally a scavenger hunt.

We were lucky to be able to use the resources of the Rarangi Surf lifesaving Club. Mrs Drake is a qualified lifeguard and took students through how to flip over an upside down IRB (inflatable rescue boat). Students worked together to upturn the boat by pulling on the ropes and leaning backwards into the water.

A successful trip by all and a big thank you to all supporting teachers: Chelsea Bradley, Ella Smith, Sophie Taetuli, Alia Malik, Taylor Drake, Lyn Fitzpatrick and Emily Page.
