A fun and competitive House Competition in 2022 still needs to have a winner, and this year the winner was ....

First of all we need to congratulate the House Manutaki and staff leaders for their mahi in 2022. They have been an outstanding group and worked tirelessly to promote participation and House spirit across the school. Ka mutu pea!

Rickard Shield - House Winner

The main award – the Rickard Shield – is awarded to the top House every year. The shield has a great deal of history behind it, beginning 59 years ago. 

Unfortunately our traditional full school House event that gets the year underway – the Athletics Championships – was unable to be held. However that didn't stop us from having a wide range of other events and opportunities for all students to participate and early points throughout the year.

Ōpaoa jumped out to a small lead in the early events and by the time swimming sports came around, had a narrow 3 point lead over Kaituna. However Wairau wasn’t going to let them get away either and with good performances in netball, football and choir had moved into second place. The final event was the PCT challenge and Ōpaoa proved that they were out to take the title with a commanding win.

So Congratulations to Ōpaoa – the Rickard Shield winners for 2022!

Final points for 2022 were:

• 1st Ōpaoa – 116
• 2nd Wairau – 109 (3rd time runner up)
• 3rd Kaituna – 101
