Pink Shirt Day 2023

Hauora Manutaki —

Thank you to everyone who dressed up and shared the love for Pink Shirt Day 2023, last Friday 19 May. We managed to raise $922 for the Mental Health Foundation New Zealand.

Bully Free Week

Last week we celebrated Bully Free Week at Marlborough Girls College. We began the week by raising a bully free banner and chalking supportive messages.

Our focus was on being an upstander not a bystander and Whānau Time activities included a quiz and discussions about how to be an upstander. In extended Whānau Time on Wednesday we covered cyberbullying. We watched a video about cyberbullying and its impact on young people and discussed ways to keep ourselves and others safe.

One of our key school messages to students is ‘We Rise By Lifting Others’ and Bully Free week and all the activities we ran helped us cement this important message. It’s up to every one of us to make a difference to the wellbeing of ourselves and others by lifting each other up.

Pink Shirt Day

Pink shirt day was filled with loads of laughs, treats, kind comments and of course, pink shirts! The rainy day did not dampen spirits or everyones support.

The Marlborough Youth Trust visited us at morning tea and students flocked to our designated pink area to have their nails painted pink to show support to stop bullying and enjoy some tasty treats!

At lunchtime we had pink cupcakes for sale and people donated $3 in return for their delicious treats. A big thank you to our hospitality teacher (Mrs Anderson) and students who made and iced 200 gorgeous pink cupcakes for us to sell. All money raised from sales and donations go to the Mental Health Foundation to stop bullying in Aotearoa.
