Ngā Manu Kōrero 2023

Whaea Delyn —

On Friday 5 May the school competition to select our 2023 Ngā Manu Kōrero representatives were held at Omaka Marae.

We are delighted to announce that the following students were selected to speak at the Te Tauihu regional competition in Nelson on 9 June:

  • Te Rāwhiti Ihaka - Junior Te Reo Māori - Māreikura Nepia
  • Sir Turi Carroll - Junior English - Fenella Cooney
  • Korimako - Senior English - Trinaty Pillans

The school competition day went smoothly and we would like to share our appreciation to Omaka Marae for hosting us, Whaea Marg Bond and her team for the kai; to the teachers, especially Whaea Sharon Kennard and Matua Mark Lower, who supported the students preparing their speeches, to the judges and the feedback and encouragement they provided to all of the speakers - ngā mihi nunui ki a koutou katoa.

  • English judges: Whaea Sia Alipia and Whaea Alice Wilson
  • Te Reo Māori judges: Whaea Louisa King and Whaea Vanessa Anderson.

We were also really pleased to have Te Pā Wānanga join us and listen to the speeches.

Special mention to all of the students who helped run the event - Ava Vardey, Jayde-Ann Carlson, Ella Parish, Sophie Parish, Alex Brown, and Persia Edmonds on guitar, and everyone who did their bit!
