Surviving Library Week
Library Week was celebrated this year with a Survivor Island theme...
There were a number of competitions and had some enthusiastic participants.
We asked some staff members to tell us what book they would like to take if they were stranded on a desert island. Then we asked the students to match these books to the staff members. This generated lots of talk about favourite books and their uses.
We carried the Survivor Island theme on to discover the school’s favourite book by selecting our top five favourites and then voting them off one by one. Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes survived the competition to be the top pick.
Our treasure chest of books (bit like a lucky dip) generated a lot of interest but the most unusual was the "Extreme Reading" photo competition (take a photo of yourself reading in an "interesting" place or position).
The highlight of the week was Dress Up day. Those students who wanted to, came dressed as a book character and had lots of fun for the day. Some staff even joined the spirit of things - there were an awful lot of Harry Potter's professors on campus that day.
