NZAquabots Assemble!

Marlborough Girls' College —

NZAquabots @ MGC are all ready for take off, or more accurately Sink down!

We currently have 5 teams of 3 to 4 students each working on the NZAquabots program.

On Monday 22 May they spent the day building and testing their ROV's (Remote Operated Vehicles) as part of a build day. A total of 16 MGC students from Years 9, 10 & 11 participated in the build day and then trialed them at Stadium 2000 in the afternoon.

They had to build the frame from PVC pipe, cut and drill as well as make the controller which involved skillful soldering and electronics knowledge. All teams successfully fabricated a working ROB that they were able to test in the Stadium 2000 pool.

The Aquabot teams are how working towards the Regional competition in Nelson in mid September. This will involve teams understanding the tasks for this years competition, making modifications to the Aquabots so they can carry out the tasks required, including writing up a project report and working with sponsors & mentors to gain support for the competition teams.

A big thank you to Amy Cornelison from Ministry of Inspiration (Nelson) who facilitated the build day and the University of Canterbury who hellped fund the Aquabot kits.
