Tamara takes on Parliament

Marlborough Girls' College —

Congratulations to Tamara Livingstone who has been selected as the Kaikoura Youth MP for 2022

Youth Parliament allows young New Zealanders to learn first-hand about New Zealand’s democracy and influence decision making by replicating the real Parliament as closely as possible.

We are delighted that Tamara has been selected and are confident she will provide a strong and powerful voice to the Youth Parliament for 2022. Below Tamara and Stuart Smith (MP for Kaikoura) share their thoughts on her appointment.

Tamara shares why she is taking on this opportunity

I applied to be a Youth MP as I believe it will be an incredible opportunity and open me up to many more incredible things in the future. I have a passion for advocacy and want to be a part of something bigger than myself.

I am looking forward to meeting new people and making a difference. Being given the opportunity to represent my community on a higher and more meaningful level is something I am very grateful for and I will do all I can to fulfil the roll to the best of my ability.

Words from Stuart Smith, MP for Kaikoura

I’m very pleased to have selected Tamara Livingstone as the Youth MP for Kaikoura for 2022. Tamara produced an incredibly well thought-out and comprehensive video explaining why she would be a good youth MP. It is incredibly valuable for the youth of our country to engage in politics, as the decisions made in Parliament will ultimately affect their future.

I trust that Tamara will not only represent Marlborough Girls College with pride, but also the entire electorate of Kaikoura. I look forward to working with Tamara in the lead up to Youth Parliament, and I encourage anybody who has any ideas or thoughts on the issues that affect young people in the Kaikoura electorate to get in touch with Tamara or myself so that we can best serve you.
