Whaea Delyn Day —

Success at Ngā Manu Kōrero Te Tauihu regional speech competitions

Me mihi ka tika ki a Māreikura rāua ko Fenella i kōwhiriwhiri ai hei mangai mō tō mātou takiwā o Te Tauihu hei ngā whakataetae ā-motu mō Ngā Manu Kōrero. Tēnā kōrua, ka mau te wehi!

Māreikura Nepia was selected to represent Te Tauihu Nelson Marlborough secondary schools for Te Rāwhiti Ihaka - Junior Te Reo Māori and Fenella Cooney was selected to represent the region for Sir Turi Carroll - Junior English. Māreikura delivered a stunning speech titled “Me pēhea te ahurea Māori e whaitake ai ki ngā rangatahi” and Fenella gave a compelling speech titled “I am unapologetically Māori”.

We would like to thank the support group of students from Marlborough Boys’ and Girls’ Colleges, Matua John Kendal and Whaea Sarah Kendal, Whaea Jan Worrall, Mrs Cromarty and Mrs Delmonte who stood with us. We are also grateful for the support whānau gave their speakers, and the teachers, such as Whaea Alice Wilson, who gave feedback to students on their speeches. And to Trinaty Pillans who spoke in the senior English category Korimako - you delivered your speech beautifully and we were proud to support you all.

We are now preparing to travel to Ōtepoti / Dunedin for the national Ngā Manu Kōrero competitions 19-21 September.
