MGC Students take out YES regional finals!

On Monday 21st October the Young Enterprise regional finals for Te Tauihu were held in Blenheim. Marlborough Girls' College had three teams compete against two teams from Nayland College. Each team had five minutes to pitch their business to a panel of five judges, followed by three minutes of challenging Q+A. 

We are very proud of our three teams and the awards they received.

Millie Large, Kate Woolley, Mary Hedgman, Tessa Unwin and Grace Gamble

Taste of the Regions, a Year 12 group made up of Mary Hedgman, Tessa Unwin, Grace Gamble, Kate Woolley and Millie Large has produced a cookbook celebrating local food producers and businesses. Taste of the Regions was awarded the Connect and Collaborate award which recognises a team who has successfully connected with businesses or business leaders throughout the year. 

Emma Robinson and Kayley Hutchison

Kawaii Loops, a Year 13 team made up of Kayley Hutchison and Emma Robinson has produced crochet kits that celebrate New Zealand native animals. Kawaii Loops was awarded the Innovation award for their many innovative designs and business innovations throughout the year. 

Laura Elliot-Whale, Bess Cuddon-Corlet and Sydney White

Refloat, a Year 13 group made up of Bess Cuddon-Corlet, Laura Elliot-Whale and Sydney White who have produced boxy and pouch bags made of damaged and recycled PVC pool toys. Refloat was awarded the Sustainability award for their ability to turn something headed for landfill into a new and interesting product. Refloat was also announced as the 2024 Top of the South Regional Winner. Each team member was awarded a $1,000 Massey Business School Scholarship and the school received a $5,000 Scholarship to award to students choosing to study Business at NMIT. Refloat will also be attending the YES National awards in Wellington where they will pitch again in the hope of becoming the National winners. 

A huge Ngā mihi nui to Ms Shanks and Ms Collett, and the many business people and whānau who supported the teams. Also to Ms Collett who won the Top Teacher Award for 2024.
