SISS Netball

Olivia Pinkerton —

The MGC 10A netball team had a very successful South Island Secondary Schools Tournament in Christchurch during the first week of the school holidays.

This team trained incredibly hard in the lead up to this tournament and it paid off. On the first day of competition, the team had 3/3 wins, beating Lincoln, Kaiapoi, and Waimea. This put us straight through to the top 16, placing us top of our pool.

During day two, we began the day by beating Ashburton and then had a very intense win against Villa Maria. This was some of the best netball the girls have ever played, and the atmosphere was that of a final. Our last game saw us play off in a quarter final, sadly losing that to St Margarets'. On Wednesday, we played our first game against Marian, winning that to eventually play off for 5th and 6th. A rematch of Tuesday's game, Villa Maria got redemption, and we finished our tournament in 6th place.

The team played some outstanding netball across the 3 days. They represented MGC incredibly well, leading by example on and off the court with their sportsmanship and skill. Being the 6th best Year 10 netball team in the South Island is something we’re very proud of.
