Whāia te mātauranga hei oranga mō koutou: Seek after learning for the sake of your wellbeing

Kia ora koutou

This whakatauki refers to the importance of learning, for it is key to wellbeing. At MGC we're all about learning and growth, and our values describe our expectations of actions and behaviour to support learning and belonging. In our assembly this week we reminded everyone about those expectations. They are:

  • Be in class, on time, every time.

  • In class, join in, make an effort, give everything your best, every time. Persevere even when learning is hard - that's when the best learning happens.

  • Be kind and respectful - to your peers and your teachers. Help others, ask for help if needed.

  • Sit at your desk, not on the floor or under tables.

  • We don't have phones at school, so we shouldn't need to remind you about that!

  • Eat and drink between classes. Don't arrive in class and ask to leave to fill your water bottle. Do that at break times.

  • Where ever possible, go to the bathroom between classes. A number of our bathrooms are locked during class times because they have been trashed by students. This is not ok. Show manaakitanga for our school property and other members of our school.

  • Our uniform is a visible reminder that we are one whānau at MGC. We wear it with pride. That means no jewellery such as big earrings, necklaces or bracelets; hoodies and sweatshirts are not part of our uniform and we expect correct shoes to be worn.

How we do anything at MGC is how we do everything - sharing mana, as one big family, focused on learning and belonging. Our attitude is reflected in our actions - if you think you can or think you can't, you're right! So, doing the small things listed above really well, in every class, every day, is a recipe for success.

We're really proud of all our sports teams who have been away competing in the last week. A huge Ngā mihi nui to all the supporters, coaches and managers who are supporting them. We'll have a big round up of results in our next Bulletin and do keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

Ngā mihi nui
