WHAT IS THE OTA SCHOLARSHIP?
In 2004 the Ota Scholarship was first offered to Year 9 students from Marlborough Girls' College and Marlborough Boys' College. Since then, every year until 2020 both Colleges have selected two students (one from Year 9 and one from Year 10) to travel to Jissen Gakuen Junior and Senior High School in Tokyo, Japan. A teacher is also selected to accompany the students, the teacher is selected from either of the colleges on alternate years.
We are excited to launch the Ota Scholarship again in January 2024 with two students from both Colleges travelling to Tokyo to attend Jissen Gakuen Junior and Senior High School. In January 2024, a teacher from Marlborough Boys' College will be selected to accompany the students. Interested students may apply through this link -> Ota Scholarship 2024 Application form.

Jissen Gakuen is a coeducational school located in Tokyo, Nakano prefecture with over 1000 students. You can find out more about them from their website - https://www.jissengakuen-h.ed.jp/
WHAT DOES THE SCHOLARSHIP COVER?
The Ota Scholarship will cover the cost of the students travel to and from Japan. While in Japan, students are given an allowance of NZ$100 to cover the cost of travel within Japan. If the student doesn't already have travel insurance, the scholarship will cover this cost.
