Careers Update

Karen Tattersall —

Careers & Pathways Leader, Karen Tattersall, shares some advice for Year 13 students.

As Year 13 students embark on attending open days at tertiary providers, it is a crucial time for making decisions about where to apply. Throughout this term, students have been encouraged to prepare for scholarship applications and have been granted access to the Generosity Platform, which facilitates searching for scholarships across New Zealand that they may be eligible for. Additionally, many scholarships can be found on the universities' websites. Examples of application inclusions have been shared through the Year Group Google Classrooms, along with links to the Generosity platform.

Here are some tips for the application process:

  1. Apply early: Don't wait until the last minute; submit your applications well before the deadline.
  2. Tailor your application: Ensure your application aligns with the values and criteria of the specific scholarship you're applying for.
  3. Meet deadlines: Be diligent in meeting all application deadlines.
  4. Be prepared: Take the time to gather all necessary documents and information before starting your application.
  5. Search for relevant scholarships: Explore scholarships that are applicable to your field of interest or eligibility.
  6. Seek feedback: Ask someone who knows you well to review your application for any improvements or suggestions.

If students have any questions or need assistance, they are welcome to visit Careers during lunchtime or arrange an appointment by emailing me at karen.tattersall@mgc.school.nz.
